To be realistic, who does not want to spend the last part of the week with their family in the yard and grilling? I do not think there is such a person. Maybe it is not so much because of the food, but because of the friendship with your loved ones and friends. The BBQ is just an extra plus that allows us to enjoy the tastes of wonderfully cooked meat while talking to our loved ones and telling them what has happened to us over the past week.
In general, BBQ is not considered a particularly healthy food and is rarely recommended. This does not mean that once a week we can not afford such pleasure. What is an even better option is the opportunity to compensate with healthy meals that will be served on the side. So, I gathered few healthy sides for BBQ and I decided to share them with you!
A Couple of Healthy Sides for BBQ Ideas
Healthy BBQ Salads
First on the list are the healthy BBQ salads.
Ingredients for this salad are the following: kale, sea salt, snow peas, one large carrot, one red bell pepper, organic edamame, avocado, one shallot, cilantro, and basil. To spice up this salad you will need olive oil, rice vinegar, grated ginger, tamari, lime juice, garlic cloves. Mix all the ingredients and you will get a beautiful and healthy salad that goes perfectly hand in hand with the weekly BBQ.
The second salad on the list that can be used as a side dish is what is called a Greek salad.
To make this salad you will need tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, onions, cheese, oregano, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Chop the tomatoes and cucumbers, add the onion. Season with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Stir the salad well. After stirring the salad on top, add diced cheese and season with oregano. A great refreshing salad that is easy to make.
The third salad that my grandmother kept making was tarator or tsasiki.
To make this salad you need cucumbers, garlic, sour cream, yogurt, cheese, oregano, salt, and olive oil. Grate the cucumbers and strain them from the water. Mix the cucumbers with sour cream, a little yogurt, and a little grated cheese. Add salt and olive oil, and oregano if desired.
The last salad I recommend you to make is the famous fresh mango salsa.
To make it you only need six ingredients – mango, red bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, jalapeno, and lime. For seasoning, you need lime juice and salt. Mix all the ingredients and enjoy the color of the flavors.
BBQ Side Dishes
There is also something called BBQ side dishes and in this section, we will talk about the healthy versions of these dishes. To make this dish you need rotini pasta, olive oil, tomatoes, mozzarella, salt, basil, and vinegar. While the pasta is boiling, take a pot and cook the olive oil, salt, and tomatoes in it. When the sauce is ready, mix it with the pasta. Wait for this mixture to cool slightly and put the mozzarella and basil on top, as well as the vinegar and other ingredients. And voila, you have pasta as a side dish.
Second, on my list is the perfection called garlic and cheese bread. To make it you need bread loaf, melted butter, 4 garlic cloves, parsley, bacon, cream cheese, cheddar, and mozzarella. All you have to do is cut the bread into a criss-cross pattern, combine the butter, garlic and parsley and place them in the cut lines on the bread. Then make a mixture of bacon, cream cheese, cheddar, and mozzarella. Season the mixture and place it in the cut lines on the bread. Bake until the cheese is melted.
Classic BBQ Sides
For those who do not want to experiment much with their food and try new flavors, I have prepared a few suggestions for classic BBQ sides.
First on the list of side dishes is the onion and yogurt dip.
For this recipe, you need shallots, scallions, olive oil, salt, chives, Greek yogurt, sumac, potato chips, crudites. Mix everything except the potato chips and the crudites. Add salt and spices to your liking and in a few minutes, you will have the dip that everyone adores and is an absolute hit at BBQ parties.
Next on the list is the classic potato salad.
To make this salad you will need boiled potatoes, onions, salt, pepper, olive oil, and vinegar. Chop the boiled potatoes into cubes together with the onion and mix them. Add salt, vinegar, and pepper to taste.
Next on the list of these dishes are the barbecued baked beans.
To make this dish you need to have bacon, chrome, barbecue sauce, sugar, beef stock, molasses, mustard, garlic, beans, tomatoes, black pepper. All these ingredients are mixed in a certain way; you get the dish that is inevitable during the BBQ parties and is an absolute hit.
Therefore, for any of these dishes to decide, I do not believe you will make a mistake. These dishes are known to all people and everyone loves them.
